to your home.

When you want to spruce up your home, but don't feel like going for a complete renovation, wall painting is one of the easiest ways to freshen up your living space. This is because over the years, walls get stained, dirty and the colours degrade due to UV exposure. As a result, the overall feel of the home also gives one an impression of a shabby, old space. By applying a fresh coat of paint, you can inject new life into your space without having to spend a bomb.

Pre-paint wall inspection and rectification

You can't just paint over a crack, a hole or a mould - existing wall defects must first be rectified before the application of any new coat of paint.

Hence, it is typical for contractors to request to arrange a site visit before giving a quotation. This is because they need to consider if they have to allocate any additional manpower or resources to fix the flaws on walls.

Painting process

After rectifying any existing defects on your walls, the painters will move your furniture away from the walls. Be sure to mention any valuable furniture, heirloom pieces or musical instruments in your home. This so that everyone is aware and can take extra care in moving those pieces away. You should also keep your valuables safe on the day of painting by keeping it close to you or arrange to have someone to watch over your valuables.

Two coats of paint is usually required. However, if they need to paint over a dark colour, more coats of paint are required.

Post-painting and aftercare

Most paints are dry to touch within a few hours. However, to really let it thoroughly dry, it is most optimal to allow 24 hours.

Example 01

White walls are a very common choice in local HDB homes because they make spaces look bigger and brighter.

However, one thing people do not know about white walls is that while they look fresh and crisp at first, they may eventually yellow due to UV exposure. Even with the best paint brands, white will still become dull overtime. Hence, there are paint suppliers who avoid providing any form of lifetime warranty for white colour paints.

Hence, it is better to choose a slightly off-white colour instead, such as ivory or cream. It works like a neutral colour with the added benefit that the yellowing will not be as obvious as compared to a pure white wall.
