Power floating involves the use of power float machines to product a dense concrete floor. It may appear simple but there are many factors to consider when it comes to power floating the cement. For instance, the grade of the concrete and the environment factors impact the setting time of the concrete. The blades of the also power float machines need to be angled appropriately for the concrete. One powerfloating project differs from another, and it requires experience to be able to power float the different kinds of cement flooring to its flat, hard and durable condition.

Concrete Flooring & Vinyl Flooring Installation

Our lengthy experience with concrete flooring does not limit us. In fact, it complements the vinyl flooring installation services that we offer.

Often the concrete floor serves as a subfloor for the tiles/vinyl planks (in other words, the tiles/vinyl floor planks are to be installed on top of the surface concrete surface). Hence, it is vital that the subfloor surface is levelled and smooth. Otherwise, the uneven bumps on the floor surface will damage the tiles overtime. With our extensive concrete flooring expertise, we can quickly diagnose concrete flooring issues and rectify them before the application of any type of tiles. This increases the longevity of your flooring, and also leads to lower costs of maintenance overtime when the vinyl floors are properly installed to begin with.

Levelling of concrete

When the concrete is pumped onto the formwork, our experienced team of workers will level the concrete with concrete rakes. If the levelling is without gradient, this can cause water to pool and create small puddles. Hence, it is advisable to plan the gradient and slopes towards a drainage so that water can flow away.

Once the concrete leaves a light foot imprint of 3 to 6mm, the concrete is power floated either to a rough or smooth finishing. A rough finishing provides more friction and grip, whilst smooth finishing is usually suitable for when the concrete floor is meant to be a subfloor for the subsequent application of tiles.

Example 01

A single 3-room HDB owner contacted us for concrete flooring at her home.

She had wanted to remove the pre-installed vinyl flooring in her home, and keep smooth cement floorings instead.

It seemed an odd choice at first because concrete floorings typically give a "cold" feeling. It turned out that she wanted an industrial design for her home, and did not want to maintain any floor tiles. Hence, she was looking for concrete flooring contractors to discuss the possibility of concrete screed floors with swirl patterns to add visual texture to her space.
