What should you consider when choosing vinyl floors?

Any after-sales support or warranty from the supplier?

In our opinion, this factor ranks the most important, so we simply had to mention this first.

No matter how much you like a certain vinyl floor design from the supplier, it is risky to purchase from one who will not give any warranty or after-sales support.

Vinyl flooring may be hardy and unlikely to spoil. But in the event that your flooring does, there's reassurance in knowing that your original supplier will still have your back. For example, the original supplier may be able to supply the same vinyl floor plank that you used for your flooring, provide professional advice, and deploy properly trained staff to rectify your flooring defects.

What's the design concept of your home?

Design concepts widely vary from house to house, but we find that it can generally be classified as bright or dark. For example, Scandinavian interior concepts are usually simplistic, open and airy with white walls. We consider such as bright. Meanwhile, the gothic style of interior design allows for natural light but other than that, emphasises on rich, dark shades colours with heavily ornate decorations. We consider that as dark.

Hence, when customers experience difficulties in choosing the vinyl flooring pattern, we often ask: Do you want your home interior to be bright or dark?

If you want your home interior to be bright, choose light-coloured vinyl tiles and vice versa.

But of course, it is not a hard and fast rule. Some may simply their flooring to contrast with their design theme. So at the end of the day, it is what you like and prefer.

What's the function of your room?

On one hand, you can choose one vinyl plank design and have it installed in your entire apartment for uniformity. No need to make so many choices, right?

But, keep in mind that every room serves a different function, and where necessary, it may require you to choose a different vinyl floor plank with different qualities.

For example, people tend to create little puddles of water after stepping out of the shower. So if you are applying vinyl floor planks to the washroom, you may wish to select a vinyl floor plank made of a waterproof composite core. These vinyl floor planks would have stronger waterproofing qualities.

What are the needs of your family?

A common sense way to approach it is to consider the age of everyone who stays in your home. If there are elderlies living in your home, you should look out especially for anti-slip vinyl planks. If you have young toddlers, consider vinyl planks with strong foam-backing that can absorb shock impact when toddlers fall.

Above all, it is important for families and children to grow up in a healthy environment. When shopping for vinyl floors, enquire whether the vinyl flooring has low VOC emissions and whether it is phthalate-free. Otherwise, these plasticisers may overtime leak into your environment. When breathed in, it may slowly and gradually impact your family's health adversely.
